How To Plan For A Funeral Service

Death is one of the harsh truths of our existence that we are never ready for. Conducting a service in memory of the dead is one of the oldest customs that has undergone a lot of changes. A conventional funeral service was conducted in church, with specific hymns, poems and a eulogy for the deceased. However, the practice has witnessed significant change over time as an increasing number of people now desire to opt for a customized service for their loved ones.

Preparing for a funeral could be an extremely painful and difficult task, particularly right after the death of a relative or a friend. One of the misconceptions about funeral services is that it is legally mandatory for the family of the deceased to arrange a service, but this is not true. Secondly, majority of people think that it has to be held in a church, which again is not true. It is noteworthy that even though conventionally such services were held in a church, with the trend of personalizing, many funeral services are being held within the premises of the departed. Thirdly, such a personalized service does not mandate use of a casket or presence of a pastor or clergy to conduct the proceedings.

With the increase in choice for personal funeral services, it is crucial to take the deceased into consideration while planning for it. The choice of music must be from among the personal options of the deceased, though it is preferable to have soft music. You have the choice of playing audio records or hiring a live music band.

Some families prefer display of the personal things of the deceased in a collage, for the persons assembled to reflect on his or her life. It is also crucial to include an address in the service in form of a speech, poem or a song dedicated to the deceased by a close friend or family member.

Finally, it is preferable to give the guests assembled at the service some type of a memento that will help them recall the memory of the departed forever.
